Can a man and a woman be platonic friends? I’ve had this discussion with many people over the years. Some say yes. Others say no.
My only siblings were two older brothers, so I grew up around boys. As an adult, I’ve had many wonderful non-romantic friendships with men. Some of these friendships lasted for years. Even today, I have male friends who, like me, are straight, single and unattached. However, we’ve never taken the friendship to the next level. I simply don’t feel the romantic attraction, even though I genuinely like them as people. Of course I’ve had a few friendships which, over time, grew to something more, but they were the rare exception.
I’m including a male/female platonic relationship in my upcoming contemporary romance novel, Aquamarine. So far, all my female leading characters have had a close female friend and confidant. However, I like having variety in my stores. Therefore, Tonya will have close friend and confidant who’s a straight man. They’re best friends who think of themselves as long-lost twins. No, they won’t be taking their relationship to the next level, although I did this in a previous contemporary romance novel, The Deception. This time the female lead will end up with someone who isn’t a platonic friend.
